Uels Summer of Music 2025

A sonorous neighborhood: from pop songs to
shanties on the border

On Sunday, July 6, a special cross-border choir concert will begin at 3:00 pm as part of the Uelser Musiksommer. Two choirs will be performing on the Am Brunnen square, right next to the old town hall: the Dutch shanty & smartlappenkoor "1 plus 1 is 3" and the German shanty choir Wasserstadt Nordhorn.

The inclusive choir project "1 plus 1 is 3" travels all the way from the Netherlands to perform in Uelsen. People with and without disabilities sing together in this choir. Their repertoire ranges from emotional ballads to Dutch folk songs and well-known shanties - with a lot of enthusiasm, joy and a strong focus on community and musical togetherness.

Instead of the originally announced Uelsen Gospel Choir, which unfortunately had to cancel its performance, the Shanty Choir Wasserstadt Nordhorn will take over the second part of the concert. The choir was founded in 2006 and is made up of singers from the counties of Bentheim, Emsland and Ootmarsum in the Netherlands. With maritime songs, traditional shanties and a genuine coastal atmosphere, the choir creates a North German flair in the heart of Uelsen.

Location: Am Brunnen (next to the Old Town Hall, Am Markt 7, Uelsen)
Start: 15:00
Admission free - donations are welcome.

During the concert, donations will be collected for the Niedergrafschaft music school's support group.

The municipality of Uelsen cordially invites you to a musical and unifying Sunday afternoon in the center of Uelsen.

The concert is part of a cross-border cultural project and is financially supported by the European Union and the Interreg partners as part of the Interreg Germany-Netherlands program.
