Wilsum Elementary School Sets an Example for Diversity and Respect

On June 26, 2026, Wilsum Elementary School was officially inducted into the nationwide network “Schools Without Racism – Schools With Courage.” With this step, the school is sending a clear message of tolerance, respect, and a discrimination-free community.

As honorary patrons, author and speaker Theresa Sperling and Holger Schoneveld will guide the school on this journey and support the school community in its efforts to combat racism and exclusion.

Guests at the welcome ceremony included, among others, the head of the school department, Ms. Claas; the mayor of the joint municipality, Mr. Bosch; as well as numerous parents and other members of the school community.

The school’s booster club made a special gesture: it presented a bench bearing the inscription “No Room for Exclusion.” The bench symbolizes the values that the school aims to embody even more strongly in its daily life going forward.

The students organized the celebration with great dedication and creativity. A varied program played a key role in making the event a success. A particular highlight was Theresa Sperling’s poetry slam, which impressed the guests and powerfully underscored the event’s message.

By joining the network, Wilsum Elementary School commits to working actively and continuously to combat discrimination and to raise awareness of the importance of living together respectfully.
